Dieting and Diabetes

Hi Guys...

Very few people realize the profound effect that weight has on diabetes. Even instances of gestational diabetes are much greater in patients that are overweight than in those that are not. Type 2, or adult onset diabetes is more commonly found in overweight people than those that are within their 'ideal' weight ranges. In fact, almost 90% of those with Type 2 diabetes are overweight. If you are suffering from Type 2 diabetes, the best gift you could possibly give yourself just might be the gift of getting your weight under control.

Among those that suffer from Type 2 diabetes almost 40% have high blood pressure, which is another condition that is believed to be exacerbated by excess weight. Being overweight might also lead to a condition known as insulin resistance in which the body no longer responds to the insulin that is needed to assist the body in using sugar and glucose as fuel on a cellular level.

There are some things you can do to help yourself out if you have been diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes or labeled at risk for this devastating condition. First of all, take off the pounds. I know this is much easier said than done. Dieting is never easy and rarely fun for the average person. However, if you do not begin to take drastic steps toward procuring the best possible health for yourself you may not be able to enjoy the quality of life you had planned for your golden years. Let your condition be your motivation and make plans to enjoy watching your grandchildren and great grandchildren graduate college.

Fight it standing up. Don't sit down and let Diabetes control you. Stand up and take control of your body back. This is a fight to the finish and if you let it, diabetes will be your end. If you fight it standing up, lose the weight, get out there and exercise, listen to the doctor's orders and follow them. Find the strength within you to battle this disease head on. You'll be amazed at what happens when you decide to stand up and fight for your health.

Get active. Find activities that you enjoy and get out there and do them. Don't make those activities passive activities either. Even if it's just going out to play shuffleboard everyday get out there and play. Enjoy your time in the sun. Pick flowers with the little ones. Take up golf. Do whatever it takes to get up and moving each and every day in order to remember why you want to live forever in the first place.

Watch what you eat. Garbage in, garbage out, right? You have strict dietary requirements once you've been diagnosed with diabetes. This means that you absolutely must follow your dietary restrictions. Learn to live within those limits in order to live and enjoy life to the fullest you can. The amazing thing is that there are all kinds of foods available that are friendly to those with diabetes that weren't around just a few short years ago. It is quite possible to live and eat quite nicely with diabetes if you stick to your plan. The most important thing about dieting with diabetes is that you never lose sight of how crucial it is to do so.

That's all for now guys.. till our next post.. adios..

Stroke Now Has A New Indicator... Check it out!!

Hi Guys,

I received this in an email and wanted to share it with all of you. Reading this might save someone's life. If you can, do pass this around to all your friends.

STROKE: Remember the 1st Three Letters..... S. T. R.

STROKE IDENTIFICATION:

During a BBQ, a woman stumbled and took a little fall - she assured everyone that she was fine (they offered to call paramedics) ....she said she had just tripped over a brick because of her new shoes.

They got her cleaned up and got her a new plate of food. While she appeared a bit shaken up, Jane went about enjoying herself the rest of the evening.

Jane's husband called l! ater telling everyone that his wife had been taken to the hospital - (at 6:00 pm Jane passed away.) She had suffered a stroke at the BBQ. Had they known how to identify the signs of a stroke, perhaps Jane would be with us today. Some don't die. They end up in a helpless, hopeless condition instead.

It only takes a minute to read this.
A neurologist says that if he can get to a stroke victim within 3 hours he can totally reverse the effects of a stroke...totally. He said the trick was getting a stroke recognized, diagnosed, and then getting the patient medically cared for within 3 hours, which is tough.

RECOGNIZING A STROKE

Thank God for the sense to remember the '3' steps, STR. Read and Learn!

Sometimes symptoms of a stroke are difficult to identify. Unfortunately, the lack of awareness spells disaster. The stroke victim may suffer severe brain damage when people nearby fail to recognize the symptoms of a stroke.

Now doctors say a bystander can recognize a stroke by asking three simple questions:

S *Ask the individual to SMILE.

T *
Ask the person to TALK and SPEAK A SIMPLE SENTENCE (Coherently)

(i.e. It is sunny out today.)

R
*Ask him or her to RAISE BOTH ARMS.

If he or she has trouble with ANY ONE of these tasks, call emergency numberimmediately and describe the symptoms to the dispatcher.

New Sign of a Stroke -------- Stick out Your Tongue

NOTE: Another 'sign' of a stroke is this: Ask the person to 'stick' out his tongue. If the tongue is 'crooked', if it goes to one side or the other
that is also an indication of a stroke.

Well guys, I hope that all of you would have learnt something very valuable today...

That's all for now..till our next post..adios..

Lady's Finger (Okra) - New Discovery revealed!!!

Hi Guys,

I recently heard from a friend that ladies finger lowers diabetes... I was pretty puzzled my self and went on to do some research about it... and walla.. what do you know... it actually does... HOW??

Well, very simple actually... all you need to do is to take 2 ladies fingers, cut them into 2 and put them in a glass of cool water... Cover the glass and let in sit overnight... In the morning consume the water empty stomach... it's that simple....

I tried doing this to see how it tastes and looks... Well guys it tastes ok... the water tastes "green" but the only thing i found a little unsettling was the look of the water... It will be a little slimy... other than that it's ok...

Well guys... here's another diabetes lowering tip... pass this around to anyone you know who has diabetes and ask them to try...but always bare in mind... all these remedies work differently for different people... and another important thing is NEVER STOP or REDUCE your medication without consulting your doctor... NEVER!!!! Always consult your doctor...

Well that's all for this post.. till the next post.. adios...

Hi Guys,

Continuing our journey in trying to find solutions to Stay Healthy The Practical Way.... For those of you who are new to this page.. what do we mean by Staying Healthy the Practical Way??.. Well... simple... we are trying to look for ways to stay healthy without going out the way to do things... For example going to the gym.. Going to the gym is great but how many of us actually do it?? There have been many of us who have got hyped up about a good gym deal.. pay the money but eventually drop out... have you thought WHY?? This is because on the norm human beings become contented with what we call "comfort zone" We have already set our daily routine. To make a change to go out of the way to do something is only applicable for a few.... Having realized that, we have decided to embark upon a journey to discover things we can do that falls perfectly in our daily routine to stay healthy without having to make extensive lifestyle changes and spend a lot of money. And along this process we have discovered that the 1st thing that we need to do is to DETOX our body... If you want to know why please do read our earlier posts in the "Staying Healthy The Practical Way" Category or "Detox" Category...

Now moving on to the next good detox product..... GREEN TEA

I am sure that all of you know the existence of green tea. On the whole, it is most popularly consumed among the Chinese and Japanese cultures. Only off late we have heard others consuming them. Now what does green tea have that makes it a good detox product?

A wonderful component in Green Tea leaves is CATECHIN POLYPHENOLS. This is an excellent toxin cleanser. There are many sub components of CATECHIN POLYPHENOLS which are beneficial for health but green tea has the most powerful sub component that is EGCG (Epigallocatechin Gallate). The EGCG in green tea leaves is the one responsible for a prefect body detox.

EGCG plays an important role in detecting excessive toxin in our body and removes it via our Kidneys and Bladder.

So guys... you see such a simple product which is easily accessible from any supermarket, hypermarket, medical store or any tea merchant can do wonders for us. In addition to this, it is extremely affordable, very simple to prepare, tastes great plus it's caffeine level is only 1/4 the amount we get in black tea or coffee which makes it extremely good to consume on a regular basis..... I think this is a practical way to detox our body.. don't you??

By consuming green tea, we not only get a chance to detox but can enjoy a lot more benefits. Here are a few extra benefits we get by consuming green tea:

1) Weight Loss - It's a good product for those who want to shed some extra weight off. Green Tea helps in increasing our body's natural metabolism rate hence burns off more fat than usual.

2) Prevents Cancer and Heart Diseases(Atherosclerosis) - The EGCG is an extremely good antioxidant which prevents cancer and heart diseases. If you are doubting this, think of this. If you do some research, you will find that the Chinese and Japanese have the lowest rates of Cancer and Heart Diseases than anyone else in the world... WHY?? That's because drinking green tea or equivalent is a part of their daily routine. At any point in time or with what ever food they consume, it is accompanied by Green Tea ( or Chinese Tea).

3) Reduces Cholesterol Levels - The EGCG actually helps in reducing LDL (Bad Cholesterol) in our body thus increasing HDL (Good Cholesterol)

4) Reduces Tooth Decay - Green Tea is said to contain small amounts of Flouride which is good is destroying bacteria that cause tooth decay.

5) Induces Healthier and Radiant Skin - This is something that may interest women.. :) EGCG in green tea helps rejuvenate dying skin cells on the outer most layer hence keeps in healthier, smoother and reactivated. Not only this, it helps prevent formation of wrinkles, psoriasis, ulcers and etc.

P/S: - An additional beauty tip for ladies and men as well... Remove leaves from the tea bag after being used and apply it over your face for approximately 15 minutes a day. Then wash it off with PLAIN WATER. DO NOT USE ANY SOAP and you will see a more radiant looking skin in just 2 weeks... :)

6) Keeps Body Joints Healthy - EGCG is an extremely good anti-inflammatory agent. It has helped people around the world reduce joint pains and helped those with osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis and bursitis feel a lot better.

7) Reduces Diabetes - Now this is something very useful as recent studies by WHO have found that 1 in 12 people are diabetic or potentially diabetic. Well, EGCG in green tea have proven to help prevent Type 1 Diabetes or slow down its progression once it has developed.

8) Protects Liver - Studies have shown that those especially men who consume 4 to 5 glasses of green tea a day has lesser chances of developing any liver related diseases. EGCG also helps protect the liver from toxic substances such as alcohol..... CAUTION - This does not mean that one can drink green tea and consume as much alcohol as they want... Anything in excess will damage your body!!!!

So my dear friends.... As we have listed above Green Tea is like a 9 in 1 product.... By just drinking 4 to 5 glasses a day, you get to DETOX your body and enjoy 8 other benefits from it.... To those of you who already drink it BRAVO to you.... To those of who have not yet, please do make it a practice.... It's easy to get, Affordable, Easy to prepare and taste great....

Now, here are some important Green Tea preparation Tips... If we wanna rip the benefits we got to do it right... RIGHT?

1) Use fresh cool water to boil

2) Do not boil until water is extremely hot. Green Tea leaves are very delicate. If you are using a boiler, turn it off before it stops by it self... In other words 3/4 boiled water is the best for steeping green tea

3) Do not Steep green tea in an aluminium or plastic container. These materials are reactive and will only add toxic materials to your tea and leave an off taste to the tea. Instead you may want to use stainless steel, porcelain or China wear.

4) If you are concerned about the caffeine content (although very low), you may pour off the 1st batch of tea as most of the caffeine will be there.

5) Steeping the tea for 2 to 4 minutes is sufficient to get maximum benefits from it.

6) And last but not least drinking 4 to 5 glasses a day is sufficient. Remember that anything good for health will in turn become your body's enemy if taken in excess!!!

Well that's all for today guys... till our next post... adios...

7 Simple Steps to prevent DIABETES

Hi Guys,

As we already know, Diabetes is more prevalent than ever and 95% of cases diagnosed are type 2 diabetes. It is one of the most common disease that we are suffering or can potentially suffer from. I have seen tonnes of people suffering from this disease.

The sad part is, they could have done something about it way before it found them but they didn't.. WHY? were they just ignorant about healthcare or they just didn't care? Either way, watching them has taught me a great lesson... I don't want to be like that... It's annoying when we:-

1) Can't consume something nice just because of the sugar content
2) Have to take so many different kinds of medication... the worst part is when we decide to travel or go for a nice holiday.. That is when we want to enjoy, have loads of fun and indulge in good food... BUT all we need to think is about the medication that needs to be taken..
3) Sticking ourselves with a needle... I sure hate this.. imagine having to stick yourself with something sharp everyday for the REST OF YOUR LIFE... It's a fact my friends... Many diabetics are INSULIN dependent that they have to do this everyday... sometimes 2 times in a day...
4) Have too many restrictions (This i think is common no matter what type of disease we have)

Although for some the development of diabetes is inevitable, perhaps due to heriditery and other factors, for the vast majority it can be prevented by taking these 7 simple steps...

Before diabetes type 2 becomes fully developed you go through a stage known as pre-diabetes.  This is where you start to show some of the symptoms, which if ignored, can lead to full blown diabetes.

Make these 7 action points part of your daily routine and you could stop this disease happening to you:

1) If you are overweight you risk developing diabetes.  Reduce the amount of food on your plate so you gradually eat less and start to lose weight.

Drink a glass of plain water or a sugar-free drink before your meal to take the edge of any hunger pains.

2) Reduce the amount of fat you are eating; grill or bake foods instead of frying; use low-fat spreads and reduced fat meals.

3) Check the Glycemic Index of the food you are eating - knowing what each food contains helps maintain your blood-sugars, which in turn can prevent the full onset of diabetes.

4) Drink at least 8 glasses of water every day. If you keep a bottle of water with you and sip frequently you'll be surprised how much you do drink throughout the day.

5) If you are feeling peckish choose a healthy snack rather than a chocolate bar.

6) Use skimmed rather than full-fat milk in hot drinks.

7) Exercise is good for health.  But if you are not use to exercise then start in moderation.  15 minutes gentle walking each day will ease you into a regular exercising pattern.

All of these action points are also the ones that diabetics are advised to take - if you take them now you might possibly prevent irreparable damage to your health.

Whatever i have typed here i believe is something that is not extremely difficult for any of us to do.. It just requires a little getting used to.. We don't have to spend any money to do the 7 steps above plus look ahead... By practising these simple steps, we could go on leading a better, NO-RESTRICTION / MEDICINE FREE life..

Till my next post.. Adios..
